There's a date coming up that I'm sure is on all of our calendars: National Whisky Sour Day! This definitely-not-made-up US holiday is the perfect excuse to mix up a sour — whether a classic recipe, a New York sour, or a twist (see below!).

Blended Scotch maker Monkey Shoulder's contribution to the occasion is this Jam Sour, with a recipe from US ambassador Kevin Haxho. The addition of jam or marmalade lends sweetness, and it also allows you to customise the flavour to your preference. Personally, I'll be taking the opportunity to use some seasonal fruit with a blackberry jam.

Ingredients:

2.5 parts Monkey Shoulder Whisky
1 part lemon juice
2 tsp of jam or marmalade
1 dash of orange bitters
1 egg white or 2 tbsp of aquafaba

Method:
Add all ingredients to a shaker. Add fresh ice and shake. Strain into an ice-filled glass.
